My child has never studied music or Shakespeare before, does that matter?

Not at all. We are passionate about introducing these skills to primary school children. All levels of experience and ability are welcome. Additionally, kids who already have skills in music will have the opportunity to further apply their knowledge in an ensemble setting.

AREN’T KIDS TOO YOUNG FOR SHAKESPEARE IN PRIMARY SCHOOL?

If children are introduced to Shakespeare in a fun and practical way during primary school, it has huge benefits when they come to study Shakespeare in high school. Ellie spent many years performing Shakespeare to primary school aged children in London, and saw how engaged and delighted younger children can be. Like all skills, the earlier children are exposed to the different language used in Shakespeare, the easier they will find it.

What sets your camp apart from the others?

Shakespeare and Soundtracks aims to equip your child with real, practical skills in music and the language of Shakespeare. In the music sessions, students will spend quality time learning keyboard skills and music essentials. During Drama sessions, students will experience the joy and fun to be found in the language of Shakespeare. During Creative Arts sessions, students will work together to create backdrops and props for the performance.

How much is the camp?

Shakespeare and Soundtracks runs for 4 days. The price for all four days is $495 and includes free optional before and after camp care.

CAN I WATCH THE CLASS?

Only staff and children are permitted in the classrooms. However, parents and friends are welcome to watch the performance at the end of the camp.

What should my child bring?

The children will need to bring lunch, a water bottle, hat, and sunscreen. Please label all items with your child’s name

Is food provided?

No. Children need to bring their own food and water bottle. They will need food for a fruit/vegetable break, lunch, and a recess. Children will be using up a lot of energy so please be sure to pack plenty of food. Please do not pack food containing nuts.

Are nuts allowed?

No, we are a nut free camp.

What time does the camp run?

Shakespeare and Soundtracks camp runs from 9am to 4pm daily. Free before and after school care is available from 8:30am to 5pm. We do not offer care after the show on the final day, so if you do not watch the show, please arrange for pickup at 4:30pm.

Do I need to book for before and after hours care?

No, you don’t need to book for before or after hours care.

What time is the performance?

Will my child be in a group with their friends?

Groups will be determined by age so it will not always be possible for friends to be together if they are different ages. However, we will always do our best to group friends together if requested. There will be several sessions during the day in which all students are together.

How many children will be in each group?

There will be a approximately of 45 children split into three groups. There will be a specialist music teacher, drama teacher and creative arts teacher.

Does my child need a costume?

There is no need to buy anything especially for the performance. Your child will be asked to wear a very basic costume for the end-of-camp performance eg. all black/dark clothes. Your child will be told what to wear on the first day – it depends on what character they will play.
